Thanks to alcemy, our customers should become quality leaders compared to their competitors. Manual processes in the plants and fluctuations in quality characteristics must be a thing of the past. With regard to the climate crisis, we firmly believe that we can only actively counteract it if we manage to reduce the carbon footprint of the cement and concrete industry significantly and quickly.
Traditional concrete formulations have a large proportion of cement clinker, the main ingredient and binder in concrete. This means that errors in the production process or fluctuations in humidity due to natural resources such as sand do not have such a strong impact. The downside of the coin, however, is an unnecessarily high CO2 footprint, which is largely caused by the cement clinker manufacturing process. In order to reduce CO2 emissions, this cement clinker must be replaced by low-CO2 substitutes such as limestone powder, calcined clays and recycled fines. However, the result is an even more sensitive product, which can hardly be handled with today’s manual processes and which will significantly increase production costs due to additional personnel expenditure.
This is exactly where alcemy comes in: With our software, 5 million tons of cement have already been controlled and over 80,000 tons of CO2 have already been saved. In addition, two of our customers will add a significantly lower CO2 CEM X to their product portfolio in 2023 with our support. For us, these successes are just the beginning. We want to transform the industry sustainably.
Co-Founder & CEO
I am an engineer by heart with an intense “LEGO Mindstorms”- childhood. Growing up with cement and concrete, I experienced early on how challenging the production of low-carbon concrete can be. And with alcemy I get the chance to work on that!
Co-Founder & CTO
alcemy is the biggest chance I can think of for myself to have a substantial impact on the world’s carbon emissions and leave a habitable planet for my daughter. Besides, I like building complex things, Python, math, and machine learning - the perfect mix!
Public Policy Manager
My first priority is the climate crisis. For me, this includes reflecting and rethinking my everyday life and consumption but also making a contribution at work. It's super cool for me to be able to pursue this goal also at alcemy.
Administrative Assistence
Whether it is your job, voluntary work, or everyday life, it’s important to do something that makes a difference in the most pressing topics like sustainability, human rights, health or education. Living just to make money regardless of your impact is neither valuable nor just.
Machine Learning Engineer
I see the climate change as our biggest challenge, and want to apply my skills and brains towards addressing this problem. Alcemy gives me an opportunity to do precisely that. At the same time, I get to tickle my curiosity by diving into a domain that was completely foreign to me, and to work with competent, and motivated people.
Machine Learning Engineer
I've been given the privilege to have an amazing childhood surrounded by nature. I've also been privileged enough to have the resources to nerd passionately about engineering problems my entire life.
Together with open-minded and talented people, I want to help preserve this treasure that we share with all beings.
Senior Data Engineer
I find joy in optimizing and engineering complex systems while trying to keep it as simple as possible. Doing so while building a product that helps to moderate climate change is a perfect match.
Full-stack Engineer
It all depends on the mix. I want to move the needle on carbon emissions, which is key because I want future generations to have a life worth living.
And I also want to make the best of day to day life, following my technical passions and simply enjoying life and human connection.
Principal Product Manager
At the end of the day, I want to have the feeling that I made the world a better place. That can be on a very small scope - e.g. making a user’s daily work slightly less painful - or on the big picture - e.g. by ensuring that less CO2 is put into the atmosphere.
Machine Learning Engineer
I am motivated by the concept “leave no trace”. The idea is that one should leave nature no worse than one found it, and ideally a little bit better! I find myself applying this to all aspects of my life. Very simply, working at alcemy gives me an opportunity to help affect positive change in the world, and I can sleep easier at night knowing my work is making a positive impact.
Business Developer Manager
I believe that you can challenge anything with a good team, good spirit and a good amount of passion to start the change. We are not selling a product but a mission and it’s great to see everyone rally behind that.
Machine Learning Team Lead
I love working on complex technical challenges, using statistics to understand and building solutions that make the world we live in a bit better.. All of that I have found in applying machine learning solutions in the cement industry at alcemy.
Data Engineer
As cliché as it is, it is also very simple: I want to make this world a better place. I am fascinated as well as enjoy coding and exploring the endless possibilities of AI. Combining these two factors makes me very happy and drives me to learn more, develop on both a personal and professional level.
IOT Werkstudentin
I believe a big challenge for our generation is to preserve this planet. As individuals, we can make a difference in our day-to-day life. However with a company, the impact we can have together can really make a difference. That is what drives me and why I am proud to work with so many passionate people.
alcemy was founded in 2018 with the conviction that in cement and concrete production, the reduction of CO2 can and must go hand in hand with the reduction of production costs. Despite or precisely because of their different professional backgrounds, Leo and Robert were united from the start by striving to have a positive impact on the environment with their work.
Leopold Spenner grew up with the material as a child and spent every summer in his family’s cement works. He became aware of the challenge of decarbonizing this industry early on.
Robert Meyer brings the technical know-how in the field of data science and machine learning and helped build the ML team at Flixbus.

General manager of the Association of German Cement Works eV and head of the research institute.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Haist
Professor at the Institute for Building Materials at the Leibniz University in Hanover.
Dipl.-Ing. Eckhard Bohlmann
Former Head of Research and Innovation at Heidelbergcement.
